Organizational Studies Fundraising Project: 2007-2008

Our Organizational Studies class was divided into two groups, each given the task to raise at least $1500 dollars each. The money would then be given to the Slovakia and Mexico missions teams that left later that year. It was not easy, but my group and I were able to reach this goal and beyond, as we raised nearly $4000. Through this experience I was able to develop the skills necessary to work in a group environment and help manage a team.

I was given the task of organizing the program for the fundraising dinner, making sure that the team followed the schedule. As well, I provided creative input as to how we were to reach our desired fiscal goal. Along with the aformentioned dinner, we had a bowling event in which students of the school were encouraged to attend to spread the word about our endeavours. As well, the team prepared another event in which a family-specialist came to speak to interested parents, for a fee.

Overall, it was an interesting experience to say the least, and I am glad that I was able to realize just how difficult it is to bring people together and accomplish a common goal. These life lessons will be taken into the working world, I'm sure.
